June-No club meeting in June-
3Field trip scheduled for Auglaize Quarry near Paulding Ohio. The trip is set for June 3rd, 2017 and you should plan to be there by 7AM. We will collect until around 11AM. Anyone who has collected in this quarry, knows it is known for the high quality fluorite and calcite. But you can also find many other minerals along with very nice stromatolites.

You will need to be there at 7AM for registration. We will then head down into the quarry approximately 7:30 and hunt till 11:00. Depending on how you drive and the traffic, this is around a 2 1/2 to 3 hour trip from South Bend. Safety equipment required is safety vest or our green shirts, hard hat, eye protection, hard shoes ( he will not let  you in the quarry with tennis shoes on ).  Long pants are required, but they should be Blue Jeans. You will be climbing over sharp rocks and will need the leg protection. Note: I was in there a couple weeks ago with another club I belong to and everyone did great, finding some fantastic fluorite and Sphalerite.

Directions from South Bend are: Take US-31 south to US-30, Take US-30  east to I-69 north at Fort Wayne. Take I-69 north to I-469 south, take I-469 south to US-24 east. Take US-24 to into Ohio and get off at the US-127 exit for Paulding. Take US-127 south for around 1 mile and you'll see Hwy 111 going to the east. Take HWY 111 east until you cross a river. This is the Auglaize River. The first road after crossing the river turn south and you'll see the quarry on the left hand side. Drive through the gate and you'll see where we park at the back building.

The State Line Gem and Mineral Show is the same weekend as this dig. Anyone going early and spending the night may want to check it out. It's very close to Auglaize.  Llink for this show:
